Risk, Play & Transformation: The Creation of Original AI Artworks
Recently, I've found a new fascination in image creation, inspired by generative AI systems like Stable Diffusion. This passion feels reminiscent of my early days experimenting with camera-less image-making methods like photograms and cyanotypes, and the excitement I experienced using the Canon CLC 700 color copier in the 90's when I made mural scale images of road kill and other natural materials. The merging of these past experiences with new, AI-driven techniques has reinvigorated my art, reigniting both the playful energy that has always been an important part of making art, and a feeling of risk that comes with using unconventional or controversial methods. My new work is really exciting because I have developed techniques that use machine learning to create new images that can be printed at literally any scale.
