Biography:

Independent visual artist, Freeman’s interdisciplinary art practice includes sculpture, drawing, photography/digital image creation, and the creation of short animated films. Paul Freeman attended The Alberta College of Art & Design and was awarded the Governor General’s Award for academic excellence as a graduate of 1998. He received his MFA in Drawing and Intermedia from the University of Alberta in 2005.

Freeman was the founding artist at The Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, an art centre for artists with developmental disabilities in Edmonton, where he was the artistic director between 2002 and 2019. The Art Gallery of Alberta nominated his exhibition “It’s Only Natural” for the Eldon and Anne Foote Visual Arts Prize, which he received in June 2013. Freeman was a recipient of the Edmonton Artist’s Trust Fund in 2017 and was commissioned by the city to create sculptures for the new Valley Line LRT installed in 2022 at Avonmore Station.
